COURSE DESCRIPTION: The new curriculum focuses on the core and curricular competencies (listed below). Students will apply these competencies by analyzing the "Big Ideas" and the content that is prescribed.

Students are expected to know the following, but are not limited to:
REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Students are expected to come fully prepared each day with the following supplies: college ruled notebook with a minimum of 100 pages, paper, pens, pencils, eraser, pencil crayons, glue stick.
*Students are required to have at least one novel signed out from the Library at all times, and MUST bring it to every English class! I do also allow books from home, as long as they are appropriate.

- Language and text can be a source of creativity and joy.

- Recognize and appreciate the role of story, narrative, and oral tradition in expressing First Peoples perspectives, values, beliefs, and points of view
- Recognize the validity of First Peoples oral tradition
- Assess, and refine text through self, and peer evaluation
- Transform ideas and information to create original text
